The Haute Route is possibly the most famous mountain ski route in the world and every aspiring ski mountaineer wants to try. It runs from Chamonix to Saas-Fe and takes between a week and ten days. The second night is normally spend in the valley but for the rest of the time you're above 2000m and often above 3000m. The first time we tried we got turned back first by a storm and then a few days later by a dangerous avalanche prone slope. The following year we tried again and was successful.
